About Katherine Yellen

Katherine Yellen is a certified member of both the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and the American Association of Appraisers (AAA). She has been appraising antiques and fine art for the past 15 years for insurance, estates, donations, equitable distributions, damage/loss and corporate collections. Her clients include individual collectors, major corporations such as Pepsi and Nationwide Bank as well as accountants, lawyers, insurance adjusters and insurance agents.

Katherine studied in England and received a Diploma in Antiques and Decorative Arts from the Regent Academy of Fine Arts in London and subsequently attended New York University to complete her Certificate for Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts. She continues to take specialist courses and regularly attends appraisal conferences to further her education and stay current on the latest developments and regulations.

Her professional experience includes four years appraising high end antiques and fine art with Margaret Anderson of Pomeroy and Anderson in Southport, CT. She has done hundreds of appraisals over the years which have included a broad spectrum of antiques, fine art, silver, oriental rugs and ceramics. Katherine subscribes to several auction databases and attends local auctions in order to have the most up-to-date values on everything from expensive paintings and antiques to regular household items. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of California which strengthens her ability to assess the marketplace and value each item appropriately.

Katherine's appraisal reports fully meet USPAP standards as well as the stipulations required by the ISA and AAA. Each appraisal includes digital pictures, descriptions, measurements, current condition and a value for each item. For paintings and fine art, information about the artist's background and sales history will also be listed when appropriate. Comparables selected for determining values are kept in the client's work file and can be requested at any time. For any item over $3,000, the comparables will be listed directly in the report. Katherine will also provide an electronic copy of the appraisal by email for your attorney, insurance agent or tax advisor when requested.

A formal appraisal begins when you schedule an appointment for the items to be examined, measured and documented. Our appraisal fees are based on a standard rate of $175.00 per hour covering the time spent on site plus research and document preparation. If you have any questions about your antiques or fine art, please give us a call at (203) 438-9228. Katherine can answer your questions and discuss the appraisal process further.

"Thank you for sending the appraisal so quickly and in one piece. Let's hope our belongings share the same fate. The mover seems careful and the crew are easy to work with. Your help has been phenomenal throughout. I appreciate the sense of confidence your work has given; it lifts a burden and is making the transition easier." Many thanks,

Moya from New Canaan, CT

"We just wanted to let you know that we received your appraisal yesterday for Mom's estate. Thank you for a job well done. Everything was very well researched and professionally prepared. It's nice to know the value of the items in the estate (and also know that all the time spent counting silverware wasn't wasted after all)."

Rip & Chrys, New Canaan, CT

"What a superb job you did on our appraisal. The careful research, fine photographs and footnotes are most impressive. Surly no insurance company can argue once Kathy Yellen has appraised! It was a delight meeting you."
