Appraisal Experience:

Katherine Yellen has been working as a personal property appraiser for the past 14 years and has been certified by both the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and the Appraisers Association of America (AAA).  She studied in England and received a Diploma in Antiques and Decorative Arts from the Regent Academy of Fine Arts in London and subsequently attended New York University to complete their Certificate for Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts. She continues to take specialist coursework and regularly attends appraisal conferences to further her education and stay current on the latest developments and regulations.   Her work experience includes four years appraising high end antiques with Margaret Anderson of Pomeroy and Anderson in Southport, CT.  Her specialties include English antiques, furniture, silver, porcelain and the decorative arts.

  • Clock Course at the National Assn of Watch and Clock Collectors Museum in Columbia, PA.
  • 16th Annual American Art Conference; Turning Points, Initiatives in Art and Culture.  Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

  • 19th Century European Art (AAA) included discussions with experts, restoration consultants, a Christie's preview and frame identification at Eli Wilner’s gallery. 
  • Winterthur Furniture Forum on Northeast Coastal Furniture including Rhode Island and Connecticut Furniture makers.
  • Winterthur Study Trip on 18th and 19th Century Painting and Works on Paper and 18th Century Mid-Atlantic furniture including regional characteristics of NY & Philadelphia Queen Anne and Chippendale Furniture and Long Island & Southeastern Pennsylvania Furniture.
  • New York University Advanced course on All About Appraising Prints with Roslyn Goldman.
  • Damage/Loss Appraisals (ISA course).  Methodolgy used to document and help resolve damage claims resulting from household moves, long term storage, accidents or other causes.
  • Expert Witness Course (ISA) including preparation required for a deposition or going to trial; rules of discovery, evidence and proof; Expert qualifications.
  • New York University Course on Furniture Construction and Materials taught by a Winterthur Museum expert.
  • Fine Art Specialty Coursework (ISA) focusing on art history and identifying and researching fine art works.
  • Antiques & Residential Contents Specialty Coursework (ISA) covering a variety of decorative arts and residential contents. Core Coursework in Appraisal Studies (ISA) included Appraisal Principles and Business Practice, Appraisal Ethics, ISA Appraisal Report Writing Standards, USPAP, Legal Issues, Identification and Authentication and Market Research & Analysis.
  • New York University Certificate Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts.
  • Diploma in Antiques and Decorative Arts, Regent Academy of Fine Arts, London, England, covering English Furniture, Clocks, Silver, Ceramics, Glass, Metalwork, Paintings and Prints.
